The Open House 2019 & Introductory Lecture of Diploma in Family Managed Business was held on 5th August, 2019 at the City Campus. President Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Mr. Juanid Esmail Makda was the Chief Guest for the event. The event was well attended by KCCI officials and prospective participants.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. The recitation was followed by the welcome address by Dr. Izhar Hussain, Director Center for Executive Education. Dr. Izhar Hussain in his address welcomed the participants to the program and stressed the importance of family business education.
The welcome address was followed by the introductory lecture by Prof. Kamil Shahbazkar, Family Managed Business Faculty titled "Family Business Sustainability". Prof. Kamil shared solutions to challenges faced by Pakistani Family Businesses. He presented a future roadmap of Joint collaboration between the KCCI and IBA Family Managed Business Program.
Mr. Junaid Esmail Makda, President KCCI and Chief Guest of the Open House 2019 addressed the participants. He shared the challenges faced by the business community and the way forward.
A memento was presented to Mr. Junaid Esmail Makda by Prof. Kamil Shahbazkar, Dr. Izhar Hussain and Ms. Aysha Anas Iftikhar representing IBA and Mr. Ateeq-ur-Rehman and Mr. Zia ul Afreen representing Managing Committee KCCI.
At the end of the ceremony Ms. Aysha Anas Iftikhar, Academic Director, Family Managed Business Program presented the vote of thanks. She stressed the role of family managed business in Pakistan's economy. Ms. Iftikhar encouraged the audience to employ 3Gs in their family business namely Good Governance, Get Listed and Go Global.
The curriculum of the 4 month weekend Diploma in Family Managed Business include the modules of Family Business Governance, People Management, Marketing, Accounting, Finance, Operations Management and a Business Plan.
The modules are taught by experienced family business members, industry practitioners and academics. Throughout the semester a number of distinguished guest speakers are invited. In previous batches Mr. Asif Ismail, COO Premier Cables, Mr. Harris Sheikh, Director Marketing Naurus, Ms. Nadia Chotani, Owner Argentum, Mr. Fawwad Saleem, Director RG Blue Communications and Mr. Faraz Bandukda, CEO Al Hilal Shariah Advisors were invited to share their experiences with participants of the Family Managed Business program. In addition Participants of previous batches have also attended the Family Business Conference as part of the Diploma. Previous batches have visited International Steel Limited, Atlas Batteries and Indus Pencil Factory as part of the Industrial Tour.
During the program the participants undertake a business diagnostic of their family business and created a business plan with the guidance and mentorship of a senior family member and Family Managed Business faculty.
Admissions for the 5th Batch are ongoing and classes will start from 30th August 2019.
