Convocation 2016 – First batch of PGD Programs - IBA, Karachi

The Centre of Executive Education (CEE), IBA, Karachi commemorated first annual convocation for its three Post Graduate Diploma Programs in Supply Chain Management, Human Resource Management and Healthcare Management.

The audience for this ceremony included families of the PGD students, faculty members, students and other distinguished personalities including Dean and Director of IBA, Dr. Farrukh Iqbal; Director of Centre of Executive Education, Dr. Izhar Hussain; Our esteemed chief guest Founder and CEO of Indus Hospital, Dr. Abdul Bari; Our Guest of Honor, Territory Senior Partner and Chairman of A.C Ferguson, Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi; and Chief Executive Officer of Agha Khan University Hospital Mr. Hans Kedzierski.

The event commenced with the National Anthem and recitation of Holy Quran, followed by an address by Dr. Farrukh Iqbal, Dean and Director IBA. Welcoming the esteemed guests, Dr. Farrukh profusely expressed his gratitude to the Guests, Dr. Abdul Bari and S. Shabbar Zaidi. He then praised the efforts of graduates of Post Graduate Diploma Program, for being the pioneers of this program. Dr. Farrukh stated, "We here at IBA, seek international affiliations to ensure that international standards of education are being followed, that is exactly each one of our program is affiliated with an international institution. Moreover, our teaching methodology consists of a mix of both, permanent faculty and visiting faculty, who are people belonging to the industry. In fact, our visiting faculty is extremely important and valuable for us, because they have the first-hand knowledge of the industry. Currently we have Post Graduate Diploma program for only 3 fields, but we plan on expanding."

Dr. Farrukh's address was followed by an address by our Guest of Honor Mr. Syed Muhammad Shabbar Zaidi, who appreciated the efforts of IBA, saying that he feels relieved that there are institutions such as IBA, which are continuously striving to provide qualified personnel to the Industry. He further said that all the three fields of Post Graduate Diploma were extremely important. He also appreciated the graduates for having the courage to keep studying even where they were working.

Following his address, diplomas were conferred to students by the Dean and Director, Dr. Farrukh Iqbal and the academic program directors Dr. Minhaj Qidwai, Dr. Rameez Khalid, and Ms. Nyla Ansari for their respective programs, and by the Acting Registrar of IBA, Mr. Jami Moiz for the absentia students. After which they presented Medals and Shields to the high achievers to celebrate outstanding excellence in their respective disciplines. The Valedictorian speeches of the Position Holders, left the audience in tears of joy.

The honorable Chief Guest Dr. Abdul Bari Khan, then addressed the audience emphasizing on the importance honesty, faith and dedication, saying that, "If a task is started with a foundation of concrete faith in Allah, success is Inevitable." He also congratulated the graduates saying that IBA is known to be producing leaders, for the society."

The ceremony ended with the closing remarks and vote of thanks by the Director Center for Executive Education Dr. Izhar Hussain, who treasured the courage of the graduating students, saying that, "A person may be in one of the three stages in his life, either he is ignorant, a student or a scholar. We definitely are not scholars, nor do we want to be ignorant, so the safe way is being student."
