All our programs provide:
IBA is the oldest business school outside North America. It was established in 1955 with initial technical support provided by the world famous Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania; later, the University of Southern California set up various facilities at the Institute and several prominent American professors were assigned to the IBA. The course contents, the curriculum, the pedagogical tools and the assessment and testing methods were developed under the guidance of reputed scholars from these two institutions. IBA has jealously guarded the high standards and academic traditions it had inherited from Wharton and USC while adapting and adjusting them with the passage of time. A large number of Pakistani faculty members received advanced degrees from Wharton and the University of Southern California.
Till 1994, the University of Karachi awarded degrees to the graduates. In that year the Sindh Assembly elevated the Institute's status to that of a degree-awarding institution. A bill is pending in the Assembly for conferring the status of a University to IBA. Inspite of a rapid increase in the number of business schools, the IBA has maintained its position as the premier institution of higher learning in the field of management and business administration.
The IBA initially offered MBA program only for day scholars. In 1957, an Evening Program was started to cater to the needs of the numerous working executives and managers who were interested in furthering their careers through part-time business studies. In 1982, a three-year BBA (Honors) Program was introduced which has now been upgraded into a four-year BBA program.
The Center for Computer Studies was established in 1983 with the collaboration of IBM, Pakistan. It initially offered a diploma in system analysis to overcome a shortage of software professionals in the country. It now offers BBA (MIS), MBA (MIS) and BS (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology), MS (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology) and PhD programs. The PhD degree is being offered in the areas of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence, Cryptography, Numerical Analysis and Numerical Computing. In addition, a PhD program in MIS/Computer Science and Engineering/ICT has been launched from August 2005.
A new Center for Entrepreneurial Development in collaboration with Babson College, USA is being established and will become fully functional in 2010.
Message from Executive Director IBA
Welcome to the Center for Executive Education (CEE) at IBA, Karachi!
Since 2004, the Center for Executive Education (CEE) at IBA, Karachi has been working to transform managers into leaders in the public, family business and the corporate sectors of Pakistan. We do this through offering a range of educational programs covering governance, leadership, strategy and other specialized subjects.
Our programs prepare participants to reach new levels of success in their careers while helping their organizations achieve increased value, productivity, impact and employee satisfaction. Along with expanding their knowledge and enhancing their skills in key leadership areas, program participants learn the importance of adaptability and how to manage ongoing uncertainty while remaining focused on their organization's goals and values. Participants also explore how to inspire and implement innovation in their organization and form successful strategic alliances with external partners with be-spoken and open programs as well as post-graduate and diploma programs.
A committed faculty, drawn from academia and industry, provides practical management knowledge and experience. The faculty consists of outstanding experts in their fields who actively engage course participants in an intense and rewarding learning process.
Action learning is at the heart of executive education at CEE. It blurs the line between "work" and "learning" by bringing CEE directly into the workplace. The objective is to help participants act more creatively and deepen their learning capacity as current and future leaders working in complex organizations. Leadership in this model is another name for continual life-long learning.
I welcome you to expand your horizons by participating in the educational program at IBA-CEE.

Message from Director CEE
Greetings from Centre for Executive Education at IBA, Karachi!
In recent times, we have seen pandemics and business crises which ask for adaptability and agility. 'Learning at high pace' is a need and a gift that these scenarios have taught us along with the motto of 'world class starts where your comfort zone ends'. Shifting to learning organizations and building high performing individuals is what these situations and our businesses need. This is where we step in and we especially focus on building these traits not only in our client-specific programs but also in open enrolment programs. We continue to update our program portfolio and design new programs based on inputs from industry and academia, thus ensuring that each program that we deliver should be relevant, applicable, and based on evidence-based management concepts. To do this, we continuously collaborate with academic institutes and professional bodies of high repute ranging from Public and Corporate sectors as well as Family Businesses. Over the years IBA-CEE has developed a body of reputable faculty members, facilitators and field experts. Most notable additions are of the technology layer in our programs that ranges from digitalization of businesses and sectoral analytics and use of advanced pedagogical tools such as renowned on-table and computer-based simulations. These cases possess intellectual richness, global and local diversity, providing robust insights that blend both theory and practice from many different organizations, leaders and entrepreneurs. The cases not only stimulate class discussion by presenting crucial management issues, but they also challenge students to learn how to make better strategic decisions and become stronger leaders. The cases offer insight into the successes and failures that characterize every organization, distilling wisdom that can be practically applied in the business world.
Through CEE, the faculty produces many local cases, using their privileged access to industry executives, entrepreneurs, and experts to continually enrich the IBA's academic portfolio.
