Public Sector Negotiations & Conflict Resolution

The Center for Executive Education (CEE), IBA hosted a two-day workshop on 'Public Sector Negotiations & Conflict Resolution' from 23 to 24 January, 2020 at IBA City Campus.

A total of 10 participants were enrolled in this workshop. Each of them belonged to various public sector organizations. By the end of this program, each candidate was equipped with faster decision making, boosted confidence in handling difficult situations and advanced understanding of the concepts of negotiation. The attendees were also engaged in business games, trainings, group discussions and creative tasks.

This program was led by Mohsin Chandna, Head of National Institute of Management, and Aisha Bela Malik (Certified Trainer in Stress Management and Leadership). Both the trainers are also a part of visiting Faculty at IBA Karachi.

After completing the workshop, participants were able to:

  • Demonstrate the skills of organizing and managing negotiation teams
  • Formulate and apply the instruments of negotiation strategy and tactics
  • Identify the zone of possible agreement (ZOPA) in negotiations
  • Explain the functions of the best alternative to a negotiated agreement (BATNA); recognize and use BATNA in negotiations
  • Distinguish positions from interests in negotiations; discover interests of the other side in negotiations; create interest maps
  • Identify different negotiation scenarios
  • Describe negotiation styles in different cultures; adjust negotiation tactics to cultural differences
  • Explain the role of the media and external interest groups in negotiations;
  • Formulate objective and subjective trust-building factors; apply trust-building methods in negotiations and Perform persuasive speech techniques
