January 22 to 30, 2024: Delegates from Pakistan were invited to a 'Mediation Skills Assessment & Accreditation' training at the Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) from January 22 to 30, 2024.
This comprehensive Mediation Accreditation Training, supported by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP), brought together a diverse group of participants, including senior judges from Lahore and Islamabad High Court, lawyers, judiciary members, PSX and SECP representatives, in-house counsels, independent lawyers, IBA academics, and members from the Institute of Business Administration and the Center for Executive Education (CEE) IBA, Karachi.
The program featured guest speakers such as the Chairman and CEO of SIMC serving as the trainers. Distinguished figures, including Justice Mian Gul Aurangzeb from Islamabad High Court and Justice Jawad Hassan from Lahore High Court, also attended the program.
In addition to the training, the delegation engaged in key stakeholder meetings, fostering connections with the Pakistani business and corporate community, representatives from SIMC and CLDP, as well as notable Singaporean figures such as Tommy Koh (Minister of Law) and Lie Ling, Dean School of Law, NUS, and ED Center for Climate Law NUS. The delegation also met the Associate Dean of the School of Law at the National University of Singapore
The visit was further enriched by social interactions, including a dinner hosted by the High Commissioner Ms. Rukhsana Afzal, the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan Mr. Salman Mahmood, and a gathering with leading Pakistani businessmen and corporate professionals. During these interactions, all parties pledged their support for IBA's initiatives to establish mediation as Pakistan's preferred dispute resolution model. The High Commissioner also visited SIMC during the certificate distribution, highlighting Pakistan's significance and mutual commitment toward enhancing mediation laws and infrastructure.
